Commercial Refrigeration
Can you remember the last time your refrigeration equipment was serviced? Dirty coils and air filters could lead to burning out your compressor and leave you with expensive repair costs and lost product! The most important investment for many businesses is their commercial refrigeration equipment, it is crucial to make sure that your equipment is running efficiently and safely. Without a background in commercial refrigeration, it is easy to overlook common maintenance issues. Here are some signs to look out for when checking on your refrigeration equipment.
Growth of Ice/Frost on Equipment:
It is understandable to assume that it is normal for ice to develop since the system is designed to keep your product chilled/frozen. However, ice development is not a good sign. The most common problems for growth of ice results in a leak in your system or improper airflow. A very common problem we see is having too much product stacked around the evaporator resulting in very restricted airflow.
Fluctuating Temperatures:
Is your equipment struggling to maintain temperature? This could arise from numerous issues such as a leak in your refrigerant system, faulty door gaskets, a bad thermostat, and even compressor issues.
Equipment Operating Loudly:
Refrigeration equipment typically involves several moving parts such as compressors, fans, motors, and other various equipment. With that said, it is typical for your equipment to produce some noise. If your equipment starts to develop any unfamiliar sounds then it could result in having an unbalanced fan, a failing motor, etc. If the fan motor is hot to the touch then that is a tell-tale sign of it starting to fail.
Fixing any of these issues is certainly inconvenient but it is most certainly better than having to replace all of your perishable product!
